What is next for .Net 3.5...

Scott Guthrie blogged yesterday about the .Net 3.5 Client Product Roadmap with details about some of the things we'll be enhancing in WPF/.Net in the near future. Our team has been working hard to improve the things that many customers say are the most important things for WPF development; however, the WPF team isn't working alone...the CLR team is doing great work to help improve working set and cold start...the WPF Designer team and VS team are also doing work to improve your developer experience.  Read Scott's post for the details we can talk about now...

At Mix, I'll be lucky to present a session that goes into many of the details.  It is currently titled, What new in Windows Presentation Foundation 3.5...but the title/description will be changing to include the details of our upcoming release.  The session, like all Mix sessions, will be recorded and available shortly after Mix.

As a software architect, building native C++ programs for retail market, I am beginning to change my mind about WPF (I thought it was too slow to use it in retail software). Since yesterday (and Scott's post) I am asking my C++ developpers to learn XAML. Performance is a big concern in retail software IMHO.

I can't attend MIX (I live in France), so I'm waiting for the webcast !

Any plans to make Windows Host (COM / GDI) work better in WPF (ie: use multiple layers - currently they are always on top)?  Also, are there any plans for an enhanced 'web browser' control?

I'm gonna watch it asap, got it on my iPod now.

You're doing a good job. Don't stop.

(Also, check the spam. Never seen that much on one blog. :)

Are there any public demos for the grids and Ribbon? I wonder why there's no screenshots or markup samples for the out-of-box Ribbon control?

John-

We are considering improving HwndHost so that they aren't always on top, but that isn't coming in 3.5 "service release".

We are improving WriteableBitmap to enable rendering more directly to an image surface, which may be useful in GDI scenarios.

LiQ- Thanks. Yes, changed my blog spam settings so that questionable things require me to promote them to be posted.

Denis-

In my Mix08 talk, I did a simple demo of the DataGrid, you can go find the video at visitmix.com.  Ribbon hasn't been shown publicly, either the markup or the Ribbon functionality.  My guess is that we'll show that by TechEd...
